The Centre SÈVE in collaboration with the CREAS (Centre de recherche sur l’enseignement et l’apprentissage des sciences) of the Université de Sherbrooke, obtained a grant from NSERC within the framework of the PromoScience program which spanned a period of three years, from 2009 to 2011.
The PromoScience program provides financial assistance to organizations such as Centre SÈVE and CREAS to develop new learning opportunities for young students, allowing them to learn more about science and engineering. The project entitled « La biologie végétale, plus qu’une sciences ! » proposed to introduce young people to plant biology with an approach that is intended to be holistic since several disciplines of the ministerial program (arts, social sciences, oral and written expression, etc.) were involved.
These funds have enabled the Centre SÈVE and CREAS to develop new introductory educational modules in plant science for primary school students, from the first to the sixth year. In the same vein, a SAW training workshop and a conference by Professor Anne Osbourn were offered in the fall of 2010.
